Shoulder Treatments

Shoulder pain is caused by a wide range of conditions that can dramatically affect your range of motion. The orthopedic doctors at Adventist Health understand the impact on your life and work with you to diagnose and treat shoulder conditions. We help you choose the therapy that’s right for you and get you back to being active.

Complete surgical and nonsurgical shoulder care

You don’t have to live with shoulder pain that prevents you from working and doing things you enjoy. Our orthopedic surgeons use the most advanced diagnostic techniques to get to the cause of your shoulder pain and recommend the best treatment options.

Not all shoulder pain requires surgery. When appropriate, we offer nonsurgical shoulder treatments, such as:

  • Joint fluid therapy: Injections lubricate the joint, stimulate the body’s ability to produce its own joint fluid and relieve pain.
  • Pain and anti-inflammatory medications: We can provide oral medication or administer pain medication via injections.
  • Orthopedic rehabilitation: This includes physical therapy and occupational therapy, as well as other treatments.
  • Bracing: A brace can stabilize the joint to promote proper healing.
  • Rest/ice/compression/elevation: Also called RICE, this simple at-home treatment can reduce inflammation and pain.
  • Alternative treatments: Chiropractic care or acupuncture can be used to alleviate pain.
Sometimes a shoulder injury or condition requires repair. Adventist Health orthopedic surgeons are leaders in the field and offer the most advanced shoulder surgeries, including:
  • Shoulder replacement: The entire shoulder joint is completely replaced with an artificial joint.
  • Rotator cuff repair: Rotator cuff surgery repairs a torn tendon in the shoulder.
  • Shoulder arthroscopy: Arthroscopy is used to diagnose and treat shoulder issues. The doctor makes a small incision and inserts a thin tool with a camera on it to view the area and perform surgery.
  • Shoulder revision surgery: Shoulder revision is done to replace an artificial joint that has worn out. It can also break up scar tissue or correct unsuccessful results from a previous surgery.

Our goal at Adventist Health is always to get you the best results. Our nurse navigators provide in-depth information for all patients. You learn how to prepare for surgery and what to expect during and after the procedure.

Our surgical seminars educate and empower you to have the best experience — and outcome — possible.

You’re not alone once your surgery is over. We follow up with you to help prevent complications and speed healing. You’ll work with the same team before and after surgery, so you know exactly who to turn to with any questions or concerns.
